For a couple months now, Y.O.L.O. i.e. you only live once has been used more often than any other phrase in the English language.
This is a documented fact. Google it . . . naw, don’t google it. I just made that shit up, but it sure in the fuck seems like it, don’t it?
It’s been used to justify THEE most irrational ass shit:
“Ay cuh, I’m thinking about smashin Sandra.”
“I heard she gave Jeff gonorrhea, fam . . .”
“Girrll, this is crute! Ain’t it?”
*surveys self in mirror*
“It is, but . . . you might want to get a size . . . or two bigger. You don’t feel squished?”
*surveys self in mirror again*
“You right . . . but this the only size they got.”
These, my fellow Squares, are two examples of Y.O.L.O. abuse, and I’m about to start calling mufuckers on it. The shit’s get out of hand.
THAT BEING SAID
Y.O.L.O. resonates with so many people because, frankly, it’s rns.
You do, in fact, only live once. I, personally, been living by this phrase since June of last year. A friend of mine, Mike Fabre, stapled two very similar phrases into my vocabulary while doing our bid as camp counselors:
Two phrases that rns changed my life and should change yours. They’re a fucking life mantra if used constructively.
Think about it.
#whynot and Y.O.L.O. are pretty much the same thing. Why not do ___ you only live once:
This shit is powerful because it encourages you to take risks, try something new, get out of your comfort zone, and reach for the stars. For ex:
Try and be a rapper – why not? You only live once.
Start that clothing line – why not? You only live once.
Take a trip abroad – why not? You only live once.
Make a career change, go back to school – why not? You only live once.
Go sky diving – why not? You only live once . . . until your parachute doesn’t open and you die, but that’s not the point. The point is you took a risk.
I live by the motto: live life aggressively. i.e. live with purpose. Experience shit.
You never fucking know when you’re going to randomly get hit by car or get swooped up by a got damn tornado, which is probably more likely these days – 2012. If you were to die right now. Like RIGHT now. Would you be happy with what you accomplished in life? With your current trajectory in life?
Fuck it. Go for broke. Why not? You only live once.
Now onto the next phrase I’ve grown to love – #whocares:
Seriously, who cares?
This phrase fosters confidence within ones’ self regardless of what other hating ass mufuckers may think, which is something all of us could use a bit more of – well – not all of us. Some of you mufuckers need to bring it down a notch. Over confident asses. Butttt I digress. For ex:
“Aw this nigga, Mic, thinks he can rhyme. Oh this nigga’s a rapper now.” Who cares. Bitch. I am.
“I’m really nervous about giving this presentation, what will people think?” Who cares. Do that shit and go on about your day.
“I want to move to LA to pursue an acting career . . . but I’m supposed to go to med school and be a doctor . . . what will my family think?” Who cares. Do that shit. Why not? You only live once. Then go back to school if all else fails.
You see how that works?
Life’s about taking risks. It’s about experiencing the world, making memories, FAILING, scratching yourself off the pavement and trying again.
If you choose not to live your life this way, you’ll wake up at 45 wondering where the fuck the time went, why all you’ve done in your life is work the same bullshit ass 9 to 5 you hate/ ain’t paying you shit, why you married someone you half ass despise, and have a bunch of raggedy ass kids who barely look up to you because you ain’t accomplished shit.
Sad life. #justsayin
